Project Band Photos

What image did we wish to create for us? How do we create a connection between content and expression? These are some of the questions we asked ourselves, when we on a Saturday in February had our band photos taken – photos that would be used for the promotion of, amongst other things, our debut album.

A few weeks before this we had received our vinyls and thought it would be exciting and current to have a red thread between the record and the photos. We examined the colour scheme of the vinyl sleeve, colour combinations and various expressions. Then we decided that the photos should have a “raw” expression with regard to the background, and that the colour scheme would be red, purple and orange. Shortly after, we went out looking for suitable locations of the more raw and industrial kind, as well as for clothing in the right nuances.

On the day, we met up at Mathildes house and had coffee – an essential thing, as it was early in the morning. We put on our outfits and had some friends of the band do our styling (none of us are well versed in using a make-up brush). Then we set off towards our rendez-vous with the photographer in the Southern Harbour in Aarhus, carrying a purple chaiselong in bright sunshine. However, as the only stable thing about the Danish weather is its instability, the sun disappeared very quickly. During the hour it took to take the pictures, we had sun, rain, gusts of wind, a bird-dropping and hail stones. So, although you can prepare for and structure everything, things rarely happen as planned. Even so, we think the photos turned out really good.

Thank you to Agnes Boel Nielsen, Marcus Welch and Trine Thøgersen for their contributions.
